Board Meeting Minutes
City of Seneca Gardens
May 18th, 2026
Present: Mayor Kaufman, Commissioners McGuire, Perkey and Smith, Treasurer Sanders, Engineer Niemann, Arborist Hayman, Chief Lamey, and City Clerk Jones
Absent: Commissioner Kessinger
Guests: Natalya Adams, Seneca Drive and Janet DeStefano, Dell Rd.
Meeting called to order at 6:30 p.m.
Minutes from March were approved unanimously.
Guests: Mrs. Adams would like the City to install speed bumps on the Seneca Drive cul-de-sac sighting the speed of cars and the small children living there. The City suggested that she get a petition from the people on the street agreeing to this addition. The engineer will get pricing and Chief Lamey will try to get a sampling of the speed of the cars going up and down that street.
Ms. DeStefano came to discuss issues she has with a contractor. Engineer will help with documentation for possible civil legal disputes between the resident and the contractor and Chief Lamey will watch the house until the issue is resolved.
Chief Lamey: Reposts 19 traffic stops, 23 ordinance violations. One report of a drone flying overhead, it was a roofing company and they were advised to stop due to the proximity of the airport. Security watch at a house renovation project. 4 solicitors asked to leave until they get Seneca Gardens permits.
Arborist: Because the plantings at the median of Dell and Valletta aren’t doing well, he proposes removing the plantings and mulch and making it grass, the Board agreed.
Treasurer: Reports all bill paid and City is within budget.
Engineer: The sidewalk contractors have not showed up to complete the project. They have been partially paid but unless work is completed soon, Niemann will engage another contractor and pay them with the balance from the original group.
McGuire: He had the first meeting of the ArboretumCommittee. There will be a “Tree Walk” on May 23rd at 10:00 a.m.
The committee would like to have a table at the first Food Truck Friday to get more community involvement. They also suggested tying a pink ribbon around the trees that are included in the Arboretum portfolio.
Perkey: No report.
Smith: Gave an overview of the upcoming edition of the Gardens Gazette.
Review of the updated ordinances is continuing.
Mayor: He gave the first of two readings of the 2026-2027 budget.
The Ky. Department of Rural and Metro Aid has submitted a Municipal Road Aid Cooperative program to the City. It would allow the City to receive a percentage of the Commonwealths road taxes. The Board voted unanimously to participate.
He read a statement from the Governor that announces a 10 cent reduction in the gas tax. It will admittedly reduce the money coming into Cities road funds but the trade-off is an offset to citizens being able to fill gas tanks.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:40 p.m., voted unanimously.
