Permits in Seneca Gardens

Planning a project at home? Start here. Our permit process is simple and helps protect safety, preserve our neighborhood’s character, and maintain property values. If you are unsure whether you need a permit, reach out before you begin.

Building Permits and Certificate of Compliance

Homeowners must obtain a building permit from Louisville Metro Planning and Zoning for any alteration or addition, and a City of Seneca Gardens Certificate of Compliance must be approved before work starts. This two-step process keeps projects safe, aligns new work with our historic architecture, and supports long-term property values. The application includes a completed Certificate of Compliance form, the required fee, current photos of the home, two sets of professional drawings, and a plat of survey. After final photos are reviewed and approved by the city architect, the compliance portion of the fee may be returned.

Dumpsters and Portable Storage Units

A city permit is required for temporary items such as dumpsters and POD-style units. Items should not be placed in the right-of-way and, when possible, should sit behind the front of the house. Permits are limited to 30 calendar days. To request a permit, email the City Engineer at senecagardensengineer@gmail.com with your name, address, whether you need a dumpster or storage unit, and the dates it will be on your property.
